Three students robbed Saturday morning on Ophir Drive

Three UCLA students were robbed Saturday morning on Ophir Drive near Kelton Avenue, according to university police.

A man allegedly approached three students in the street around 2:15 a.m. and used bodily force, including slapping one student in the face and pushing two other students, to steal a cell phone and two wallets from two of the students, according to a police statement released Saturday.

The man then ran away with five other people and they were seen driving away in a gray car. The students reportedly incurred facial injuries.

The suspects are described in the police report as four Hispanic males between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 9 inches, and two possibly Hispanic females, all between 18 and 20 years old. The man who struck the students is described as thin and wearing a light-colored jacket, black shirt and khaki pants.

Although six suspects were involved in the robbery, four males and two females, according to a police report, only one suspect confronted the students.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male around 5 feet 5 inches tall, thin stature, wearing a light-colored jacket, a black shirt and khaki pants. The report states the suspect demanded the students hand over their wallets.

The suspect then struck one student in the face and pushed the other two.

After the students handed over two wallets and a cell phone, the suspects headed east on Ophir Drive until reaching their vehicle, in which they fled the scene.

The model of the car is unknown, but the report states the car was gray and sported a large spoiler on the back.

The other suspects involved in the robbery are described as Hispanic males between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches in height.

Two females were also present, and possibly of Hispanic descent, one of whom had brown eyes, a thin build and wore a black dress and shoes. No details are yet known about the second female.

All six suspects are not UCLA students, according to UCPD.

The robbery is currently under investigation by police. Anyone with information about the incident should call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
