UCLA women's soccer stays undefeated, beating LMU 3-1 on the road

The UCLA women’s soccer team extended their winning streak to seven this Saturday, downing LMU 3-1 to remain undefeated.

The No. 2 Bruins were propelled by the freshmen, who scored all three goals. Freshman midfielder Samantha Mewis scored in the 67th minute off a corner kick from junior midfielder Chelsea Cline, tying the game 1-1.

Freshman forward Kylie McCarthy scored her first goal as a Bruin in the 76th minute, Mewis quickly sealed the win for UCLA, finding the back of the net in the 79th minute.

LMU scored in the 59th minute, striking first despite haven taken only 2 shots the entire first half. The Bruins outshot the Lions 21-8.

Freshman Katelyn Rowland and redshirt senior Chante Sandiford split time defending the net, with each goalkeeper playing one half.

Saturday’s game is the final non-conference game for UCLA. The Bruins open up Pac-12 play next Friday against Washington at Drake Stadium.
