No. 15 UCLA women's soccer edges out Tennessee, 2-1

Senior forward Sydney Leroux’s goal in the 85th minute sealed the comeback for No. 15 UCLA who defeated Tennessee 2-1 Friday evening.

Leroux scored off a deflection by the Lady Volunteers’ goalkeeper Julie Eckel, receiving the ball on the left post. Leroux’s goal came less than four minutes after junior midfielder Zakiya Bywaters’ equalizer. Bywaters trapped a pass from freshman defender Ally Courtnall about 5 yards from the goal, turning quickly to beat Eckel from a sharp angle to tie the game 1-1.

Tennessee scored in the 63rd minute, the first goal of the game after a scoreless first half. The Lady Volunteers were outshot by the Bruins 21-11.

Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland saw her first action as a Bruin, playing the full 90 minutes and making three saves.
