We apologize for not having more frequent updates this week. We’ve been busy preparing our season preview insert which will hit newsstands Monday so check that out.
Coach Rick Neuheisel dropped an interesting note Wednesday after practice when asked about the quarterback situation.
“I’m not ruling out both playing in the game,” he said.
Both Richard Brehuat and Kevin Prince said they would be OK with sharing time and they just want to give their team the best chance to beat Houston next weekend.
Regardless, one of them has to lead the team onto the field to take the first snap. Neuheisel said he wouldn’t take the decision all the way to gameday.
“I don’t think I would do that,” Neuheisel said. “I don’t want to make it uncomfortable for anybody but we’ll make a decision here sometime early next week and away we’ll go.”
Prince said he thinks the coaches have seen enough to make the call and he would like to know one way or the other.
“That’s the ideal situation for any quarterback,” he said.
Other practice notes from Thursday
-Tight end Joseph Fauria made a stellar one-handed grab in the back of the endzone that got the team pretty pumped up.
-Wide receiver Taylor Embree continues to sit out with a calf strain as does F back Damien Thigpen while he nurses his hamstring.
-The team will conduct a live scrimmage at the Rose Bowl Friday afternoon. The scrimmage is close to everyone, including media. Neuheisel will conduct a teleconference afterward. We’ll post the highlights. Neuheisel said he’s glad it will be hot in Pasadena Friday to simulate the conditions they’ll face in Houston for the opener.
“We need to have that gameday experience and get all the little things ironed out,” he said. “Then, we’ll introduce game week and see if we can’t get off to a great start in 2011.”
