First team catches its breath

Coach Rick Neuheisel gave the first team a rest during the majority of Thursday’s scrimmage to conclude practice. Coincidentally, it was Richard Brehaut’s first day back from his sprained foot injury, giving him plenty of reps.

Brehaut looked great, connecting on a deep ball to Randall Carroll as well as a fade to the corner of the endzone to Josh Smith that was called incomplete but the ball was there. Prince was limited because of a blister on his finger that he’s going to get checked out by a doctor so it doesn’t get infected further.

Really not much going on at Spaulding today outside of that. Linebacker Sean Westgate missed practice with flu-like symptoms and safety Tony Dye is still out with a strained groin. Dye has missed more time than Neuheisel thought but they don’t want to bring him back too soon.

Neuheisel was short so I’ll include all of it below.

“Good practice. We took a little off of our first team guys because we wanted to make sure that everyone is healthy when we get to Monday. We’ll make sure everybody gets some hard snaps on Saturday night. I let Richard take most of the first team scrimmage reps because he had missed the last couple days and I let Kevin rest with a blister on his finger. I think we’re doing some good things and I’m looking forward to having a great Saturday scrimmage with everyone healthy and then we’ll get to Monday and start getting ready for Houston.”

(On Brehaut’s day back.)
“He looked sharp. He did a lot of good things. He’s had a great camp.”
