Best of the Bruins: First team

Trevor Bauer
Baseball/junior/right-handed pitcher
Bauer was utterly dominant this year as he asserted himself as one of the elite pitchers in the nation. The junior led UCLA with a 12-2 record with a 1.27 ERA while leading the nation with 189 strikeouts. Bauer was named National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball and is projected to be a top-10 pick in the MLB draft.

Patrick Cantlay
Men’s golf/freshman/right-handed
The men’s golf team had a superb season, in large part thanks to the success of Cantlay. He was a major part of helping UCLA win the NCAA Western Regional where he shot 13 under par. Cantlay was also ranked as the No. 1 individual player in the nation by Golfweek.

Weston Dunlap
Men’s volleyball/redshirt junior/middle hitter
Dunlap was a revelation for UCLA this season. He started off the year as a reserve and finished the season as one of the top middle hitters in the nation. Dunlap was a major part of UCLA’s offense, as he led the nation with a .446 hitting percentage.

Malcolm Lee
Men’s basketball/junior/shooting guard
The indisputable leader of the UCLA basketball team was also its second leading scorer, defensive stalwart and go-to guy in clutch situations. Lee was the Swiss Army knife for a UCLA basketball team that made it to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Lee is projected as a late first- or early second-round pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Cory Primm
Men’s track and field/senior/distances
The All-American solidified himself as one of the best distance runners in the nation after an excellent performance at the Pac-10 Championships where he won the 800-meter. Later at the NCAA Preliminaries, Primm qualified for the main tournament by completing the 800m with a time of 1:46.36.

Andrea Harrison
Softball/junior/outfielder
While the UCLA softball team took an earlier exit than anticipated, Harrison did everything in her power to keep the run going. Harrison was stellar this season, leading UCLA in batting average (.409), home runs (15) and RBIs (52). She was recently named a First-Team All-American.

Tiffany Lua
Women’s golf/sophomore/right-handed
As dominant as teammate Stephanie Kono was during the season, Lua took the reins at the NCAA Championships, where she led the Bruins with a final score of -1, the fourth overall individual score. Lua also earned Second-Team All-America honors.

Stephanie Kono
Women’s golf/junior/right-handed
Whenever a team wins a national title, there is one player who acts as the leader of the pack. For the women’s golf team, it was Kono. For the third time in three years, Kono saw her name on the First-Team All-America list after leading the Bruins with a tremendous 72.8 scoring average.

Priscilla Orozco
Women’s water polo/senior/attacker
Orozco was a key part of the Bruins’ offense this year. The senior led the team in scoring with 58 goals on the season and helped lead UCLA to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, where it secured a third-place finish after falling to California 7-4. Orozco was named First-Team All-NCAA Tournament, as well as First-Team All-MPSF.

Samantha Peszek
Gymnastics/freshman
Peszek came to UCLA with high expectations, and in her first season, she did not disappoint. As a team, UCLA was just edged out by Alabama at the NCAA Championships, but Peszek was spectacular. She carried her weight and more by winning the NCAA individual balance beam title.
