President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign in L.A. to bring excess traffic

A visit from President Barack Obama to the Westside today is expected to cause additional afternoon traffic delays, according to a UCLA statement.

The president is raising money for his 2012 re-election campaign at an event at Sony Studios in Culver City in mid-afternoon. The president will then travel to the Brentwood restaurant Tavern for two fundraising dinners.

He is also slated to discuss his $4 trillion deficit-reduction plans through spending cuts and tax increases at the events, according to The Associated Press.

Obama made appearances at town hall meetings in Palo Alto on Wednesday, including one sponsored by Facebook, as part of his West Coast trip to California and Nevada.

Although his exact travel routes have not been released, the trip is expected to impact Westside traffic from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., the statement said.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is not closing any additional lanes along Wilshire Boulevard because of the traffic, but there will be some street closures along Sepulveda Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., said Kasey Shuda, community relations officer for the Wilshire Segment.

Shudy said Obama will be out of the area by 11 p.m.
Street closures related to the president’s visit to the Westside in August caused heavy traffic near the UCLA campus.
