University police search for suspect in burglary on Landfair Avenue

A man allegedly broke into an inhabited apartment on the 500 block of Landfair Avenue early Sunday morning and stole a wallet and purse.

There were two residents in the apartment when it was burglarized, university police said. At least one of the women is a UCLA student.

The burglar allegedly entered the apartment through a window and was exiting through the front door around 4:20 a.m. when the residents heard him and woke up, said UCPD Sgt. Miguel Banuelos.

The only description police of the suspect is that he is 5 feet, 7 inches and about 160 pounds, Banuelos said. The victims could not identify any other features because it was too dark.

The victims waited about four hours before reporting the burglary to police, Banuelos said. He did not know why the victims waited that long but said in these situations people should call as soon as the crime takes place.

In light of this burglary and a different burglary in Hedrick Summit on Saturday morning, police will be increasing patrols in the area, Banuelos said.

Anyone with information about the burglary should call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
