The UCLA women’s track and field team competed in its third meet of the outdoor season at the Stanford Invitational this weekend.
Freshman Ida Storm posted a hammer-throw mark of 197 feet, 4 inches in her outdoor debut, a top-10 distance in the NCAA thus far in the season.
Sophomore Turquoise Thompson also had a strong performance with a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 53.41 seconds.
Success in that race continued with senior sprinters Joy Eaton and Ashlea McLaughlin, who posted times of 54.06 and 54.11 seconds, respectively. Eaton’s season-best time was good for sixth place while McLaughlin finished in seventh.
McLaughlin’s work wasn’t done at the meet at the conclusion of the 400m race. She finished 10th overall in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.11.
Also, redshirt senior distance runner Kelcie Wiemann competed in the 10,000 meters and finished 24th with a time of 35:30.68. Senior distance runner Shannon Murakami finished 14th in the 5,000 meters, posting a time of 16:54.18. Accomplishments carried on as redshirt freshman distance runner Allie Lopez finished in 11th in the 1,500 meters in 4:42.17.
Freshman Tatum Souza posted two lifetime bests in the long jump and the 100-meter hurdles. Souza’s jump of 18 feet, 3 inches tied her for third in her section, while her time of 14.79 seconds in the hurdles earned her 29th. In the same college section as Souza, redshirt junior Ke’Nyia Richardson finished fifth with a jump of 18-1.
Redshirt junior Tori Anthony posted a season-best in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-11.50, good for third place at the meet. Sophomore Allison Koressel also performed well in the pole vault, finishing with a clearance of 12-5.50 and tying her for fourth place.
