USAC Recap – March 1

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda
“¢bull; Finance Committee Chair Isaac Rose’s contingency allocations were passed with an unanimous vote.
“¢bull; Community Service Commissioner Jamie Yao said a Special Olympics group will be raising awareness about not using the word “retarded” in an event called “Spread the word to end the word.”

Special Presentations
“¢bull; The Community Activities Committee, a subcommittee of USAC’s Community Activities Board, presented about funding student-led groups that conduct off-campus projects and community service.

Officer Reports

“¢bull; President Jasmine Hill addressed student concern that the subsidized cost to ride the Big Blue Bus may rise from 35 cents to 50 cents. Hill said she is going to work to keep alternative transportation as affordable as possible.
“¢bull; Academic Affairs Commissioner Suza Khy discussed an event, to be held March 7 in Ackerman Grand Ballroom, that will address the state of ethnic studies at UCLA through film screenings and other activities.
“¢bull; External Vice President Cristopher Santos talked about the Student Lobby Conference in Sacramento, where students learned about issues such as the California DREAM Act. UCLA students made 24 visits with legislators’ offices.
