Rise and shine, it’s morning time!
With nearly five hours to go, Dance Marathoners are using every ounce of energy they have left in the tank to keep the dancing going.
Breakfast has just been served. Cups of coffee are being consumed as if it were finals week.
Out on the dance floor, Usher’s DJ Got Us Falling in Love Again and the Black Eyed Peas’ The Time are keeping up the octane. A circle broke out with one brave student attempting what looked to me like some kind of half two-step, half jerk.
Not everything is entirely groovy, though. Overnight, four students had to end their 26-hour attempt because of dehydration, said Josh Aulakh, a member of the Pediatric Aids Coalition. An announcement was made to everyone to keep drinking plenty of water.
Other than those students, many dancers look extremely jittery and zombie-esque. Blurry eyes, stumbling feet and spacey expressions characterize much of the crowd.
“To be honest with you, I didn’t even realize the sun was back up,” said Sean Pattison, a third-year mathematics student. “Everything seems such a blur.”
