Tie-dye, sequins and neon colors were popular choices during the decades costume theme.
Winners of the Dance Marathon costume contest included two students who dressed up as Jimi Hendrix. Fourth-year political science student Tommy Guinane and second-year political science student Chris Trevino garnered loud cheers from the crowd, as they showed off black wigs and beards.
Allison Smith, a third-year communications studies student, also represented the ’60s. Her costume had pieces purchased in multiple countries. She sported a pair of loose rainbow pants from a beach town in Mozambique. They were a gift from her boyfriend, a graduate student at UCLA, who is from South Africa. Paired with the colorful pants was a light yellow tank top from the ASUCLA Student Store.
“I take costumes seriously,” Smith said, adding that she has a suitcase full of costumes for the night.
Christine Thang, a fourth-year physiological science student, went farther back in time than most students. She wore a pink poodle skirt and a blue-and-white striped shirt.
“I thought it would be fun to get dressed up. It’s a good way to break down the time and get fully involved,” Thang said.
