Roosevelt Radio to participate in Whisky A Go Go competition

In the 1960s, West Coast rock had a home at the Whisky A Go Go on Sunset Boulevard, where, for a period, The Doors were the house act. UCLA alumna Sarah Morgan and her band Roosevelt Radio are one of the newest additions to West Coast rock and they are getting their turn to play at the Whisky Thursday night.

Morgan plays the keyboard and provides backup vocals for Bay Area-based Roosevelt Radio along with lead vocalist Ben Ross, Adrian Mccullough on bass, Philip Coffin on drums and Joel Line on guitar. They will appear as one of seven finalists in the Whisky’s Gimme the Gig competition at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Each band will perform live and the show will be streamed live at gimmethegig.com.

The winner of the competition will be given the chance to work with Grammy Award-winning producer Don Was who has produced for artists such as the Rolling Stones, Elton John and Ziggy Marley.

Morgan was active in performances on campus before she graduated in 2009, participating in Medleys A Cappella and Kerckhoff Open Mic nights.

Roosevelt Radio recently recorded their first, self-titled album with producer Chris Wonzer, who has worked with Christina Aguilera, Lisa Marie Presley and Macy Gray, among other prominent artists. Their song Midnight received considerable buzz after appearing in a music video with Vanessa Curry of the Pussycat Dolls.

Other bands that will be performing at the competition include Los Angeles-based bands Jake Newton and Eyeshine.
