As is the case this time of year, incoming freshmen will soon be added to the UCLA football team’s roster, bringing new hopes for next year’s squad with them.
Some members of the 2011 freshman class will have a head start in helping the Bruins improve upon their disappointing 2010 season. Defensive end Sam Tai and linebacker Aaron Wallace have already taken classes at UCLA and will practice with the team in the spring.
Tai, who attended Liberty High School in Henderson, Nev., was the 60th-ranked defensive end according to Scout.com, and was ranked as a three-star recruit by both Scout.com and ESPN.com.
Wallace is from Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego, and was also given three-star recruit status by Scout.com, ESPN.com and Rivals.com. Despite sitting out his senior year with a torn ankle ligament, Wallace was ranked as the No. 31 outside linebacker in this year’s class by Scout.com.
Both players will join a defense that is currently without a leader, as former defensive coordinator Chuck Bullough was fired after the regular season.
Quarterback Brett Hundley, an incoming freshman from Chandler High School in Chandler, Ariz., will enroll in school at a later date and be with the team for spring practice. Hundley committed to UCLA in September.
