Just when you thought the UCLA offense couldn’t have any other wrinkles, it may have found a new weapon – Richard Brehaut the runner? The sophomore quarterback scored on a 7-yard touchdown run on the Bruins’ opening drive and finished the half with 47 yards rushing on 10 carries.
Meanwhile, the UCLA defense has done a solid job of containing Oregon State running back Jacquizz Rodgers. Outside of a 24-yard burst, the Beaver junior has just 19 yards on 9 attempts, as well as one fumbled helmet – which came on a devastating hit from UCLA freshman safety Dietrich Riley in the second quarter. Oregon State got its lone touchdown of the half when quarterback Ryan Katz hit tight end Joe Halahuni for a 28-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Overall, coach Rick Neuheisel and Co. will probably be satisfied with going into the locker room tied against a relatively tough Beaver team – although the normally dependable Kai Forbath did miss a 49-yard field goal in the second quarter that could have given the Bruins a lead.
