UCLAradio.com resumes programming today at noon after a nearly two-week outage.

The first show will be hosted by Brittany Webb, who Monday night was appointed UCLAradio.com general manager by the Communications Board of the Associated Students UCLA.

Webb, a fourth-year mathematics student, is the former programming director of the station and was appointed to lead a group of student managers who have been locked out of their station since Sept. 17.

UCLAradio.com, which did not have a general manager through the summer, was shut down after six students, including two staff members, were caught drinking in the station on the evening of Sept. 14. Student Media changed the station’s locks on Sept. 17.

Although no arrests were made, Webb said the staff members involved were suspended from UCLAradio.com.

Webb said she plans to issue a firm code of ethics by next week for all current and future staff to agree to. The station has not had a code of ethics for staffers to sign, Webb added.

Student Media Director Arvli Ward, who oversees all student publications including UCLAradio.com as well as the Daily Bruin, said resolving the issues related to the Sept. 14 drinking incident “comes down to a general manager creating rules.”

According to Webb, the radio station is usually considerably understaffed in the summer.

“People feel like they can get away with more,” Webb said, adding that she plans to discuss with her staff whether to continue summer programming.

Webb’s staff of 10 managers and 66 active DJs remains largely unchanged over the previous years, and she plans to fill any vacancies internally.

Among Webb’s foremost plans is to increase the station’s visibility and widen the listener base by developing a new website, launching an iPhone application and giving away free tickets to concerts.

Ward said he and the board, which approved Webb’s appointment, were enthused to hear about Webb’s practical plans.

UCLAradio.com is separate from Daily Bruin Radio, which has been hosting a weekly show in UCLAradio.com’s station on Monday nights. Daily Bruin Radio has had access to the station for its shows on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4.
