UCLA guard Malcolm Lee to undergo knee surgery

This time around, the news surrounding the UCLA men’s basketball team involved one its incumbents.

Two days after announcing the signing of the Wear twins, coach Ben Howland announced that rising junior Malcolm Lee will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee next week.

The 6-foot-4-inch guard will have a portion of his meniscus removed and will be sidelined four to six weeks. He injured the knee playing basketball on Sunday, and the extent of the injury was revealed in an MRI on Wednesday.

“Malcolm has been performing very well during our offseason workouts,” Howland said in a press release. “We expect he will be better than ever following the surgery.”

Lee started all 32 of UCLA’s games last season, averaging 12.1 points in 34.8 minutes per game. Both numbers were good for second on the team behind graduating senior Michael Roll.
