Women’s golf tied for third after first day of competition

Trailing by six strokes at the end of round one of the NCAA Tournament at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C., the top-seeded UCLA women’s golf team currently sits in a three-team tie for third place at even par.

No. 4 USC took the lead Tuesday with a 6-under-par performance at 282.

Purdue came in second on the round recording only two strokes more than the Women of Troy, winners of the Central Regional two weeks ago.

No. 5 Arizona State and No. 2 Duke are also tied with the Bruins.

In the individual competition, UCLA’s best finisher is sophomore Brianna Do, who carded a 68 (-4) on the round to tie for fourth. Do trails the first place tie by only one stroke. Junior Glory Yang shot a 71 (-1) to tie for 14th, and senior Sydnee Michaels sits in a tie for 30th with a 73 (+1) in the first round. Sophomore Stephanie Kono and freshman Tiffany Lua both posted 76 (+4) yesterday to tie for 72nd.
