The UCLA swim team signed two additional recruits to letters of intent this week. Kylie Garcia from Rowland and Anna Senko from Winchester, Mass. will join the Bruins this fall.
Garcia, who primarily competes in the 100-meter and 200m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke, has enjoyed success with both her high school and club teams. With Rowland High School, she earned 2010 League MVP honors and was named Freshman of the Year in 2006, MVP of the Rowland Raiders, and the California Interscholastic Federation runner-up in 2008.
With the Monrovia Aquatics team, Garcia was a 2008 Olympic Trials qualifier. a Grand Prix finalist and a sectional finalist. Garcia also competed at Junior and Senior Nationals and was ranked in the top five in the nation in the 100 fly short course.
Senko swam for the Bluefish Swim Club under coach Chuck Batchelor. She placed 13th in the 200m backstroke and won the Massachusetts Division II state title in the 500m free.
As the team captain of her high school team, she earned MVP honors four years in a row and set six school records.
Senko is also Scholastic All-American with 4.0 honors, and a three-time member of the Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic Teams.
This fall, the incoming freshmen will join recruits Lauren Baker, Jessica Bergman, Cynthia Fascella, Paulina Guzman, Haley McNamara, Kathryn Murphy and Emily Weir, who all signed letters of intent in 2009.
Sunday, Murphy, a senior at Marin Catholic, won the 50m freestyle at the Irish National Championships in Dublin, Ireland with a new championship meet record (26.13).
