In college men’s golf’s postseason, a given team’s play in their NCAA regional determines whether or not they will qualify for a chance to compete in the NCAA Championship.
Two factors that play a huge role in determining whether a team will qualify are location and seeding. There are six regional sites with 13 to 14 teams competing at each site, with the top five teams from each regional advancing to the NCAA Championship, to be played this year in Chattanooga, Tenn., beginning June 1.
For the UCLA Bruins, their postseason fate was revealed Monday when they learned that they received a No. 1 seed, but they won’t have the luxury of staying close to home.
The No. 6 Bruins will be the top-seeded team in a regional to be played in New Haven, Conn., at the Yale Golf Course. Other teams competing in the regional include No. 7 Texas, No 17. South Carolina, No. 19 Virginia, and No. 29 Alabama.
The Pac-10 continues to show its dominance in college golf as No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Stanford and No. 5 Washington also received top seeds at their respective regional sites.
The Bruins will leave for Connecticut Monday night, with play beginning May 20 and concluding May 22.
