Three days removed from its biggest win of the season, the No. 12 UCLA men’s tennis team will take the court this afternoon to take on the San Diego Toreros at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
On Friday, the Bruins traveled to USC’s David X. Marks Tennis Stadium and upset the No. 4 Trojans on their home courts, 4-3. USC had previously defeated the Bruins twice this season, once by a score of 4-0, and then 6-1 at the LATC.
But Friday, the Bruins overcame the odds and defeated their crosstown rivals.
At 2 p.m. today, the Bruins (14-6) will take on the Toreros for the first time this season.
The two teams were supposed to face off earlier this season but had their original first match on Feb. 6 canceled because of rain. San Diego (10-8) is currently ranked No. 58 in the nation.
Today’s match will be the Bruins’ last before this weekend’s Pac-10 Championships.
UCLA finished in third in the Pac-10 conference, and with the Bruins’ win over USC on Friday, the Trojans dropped into a tie for first place and were forced to share the Pac-10 title with Stanford.
In retrospect, barring the Bruins’ unexpected upset loss on April 11 to Arizona, which UCLA had never previously lost to, UCLA did have a chance to be in a three-way tie for first place.
