What is your initial reaction to UCLA agreeing in principle to extend its contract with adidas?
For a while it looked like it was going to be “three stripes, you’re out,” with UCLA breaking off from adidas to one of its other suitors, Nike or Under Armour. Either would have been sweet, although I really had no desire to see basketball recruit Josh Smith sporting those Nike skin-tight jerseys. -Ryan Eshoff
If I may quote the illustrious Jay-Z for this answer, I wish that we could have become “Phil’s Knights” instead of signing on with the triple-stripe for a third contract. But I guess by staying with adidas, UCLA was able to maintain its individuality, considering every other Pac-10 school is rocking the swoosh. -Brantley Watson
The UCLA baseball team finally lost their first game last weekend. How will the Bruins finish?
College baseball represents the only possible scenario in which a human being desires to go to Nebraska; this year’s team has a more-than-legitimate shot at making it to the College World Series in Omaha. A starting staff that has no visible weakness will make it hard for teams to take series from the Bruins. -Ryan Eshoff
Cole. Bauer. Rasmussen. Claypool. The Bruins’ starting pitching will be tough to overcome for any team. Let’s not forget, although Stanford defeated the Bruins Friday, UCLA came back and beat the Cardinal Saturday, winning the weekend series 2-1. Essentially, it’s Omaha or bust. -Brantley Watson
Spring football practice got underway last week. What storyline intrigues you most about the April sessions?
The development of the skill players, no question. Next year’s group of wide receivers and running backs has more collective speed than Usain Bolt driving Jimmie Johnson’s car. Josh Smith (not the basketball recruit), a wide receiver transfer from Colorado, has already dazzled in a few spring practices. -Ryan Eshoff
If Prince can be king. The Bruins are in desperate need of consistency in the quarterback department and it starts now for KP. If Prince can perform at a high level, like we saw glimpses of last season, and can remain healthy, UCLA could make a push for the Pac-10 crown now that Sneaky Pete is gone. -Brantley Watson
Both J’mison Morgan and Mike Moser have left the UCLA basketball squad and will seek a transfer. How does this affect the team?
It seems like the squad could miss his personality and his good teammate-ness, but coach Ben Howland probably appreciates the extra scholarship. Morgan never panned out as the elite center that many in Westwood hoped he would be. Of course we wish the big fella the best of luck wherever he winds up. -Ryan Eshoff
Forget how it affects the team; what’s most important is how this reflects on the UCLA program. Three transfers in less than a year? Gordon, Morgan and now Moser? Although the team won’t miss them much, it simply doesn’t look good. Something isn’t sitting well in Westwood… -Brantley Watson
