The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students who wish to attend.
Agenda:
“¢bull; Though the council generally doesn’t meet during finals week, a meeting was called to vote on contingency and Board of Directors allocations.
“¢bull; All action agenda items were tabled until enough council members were present to have the minimum number of members to hold a vote.
“¢bull; Contingency allocations were approved with a vote of 8-0-0.
“¢bull; Board of Directors allocations for winter quarter were approved with a vote of 8-0-0.
“¢bull; The Call to Action Resolution was not recognized because of ambiguity in the bylaws and the absence of the third sponsor of the resolution.
“¢bull; Council members unanimously voted to allocate $21,000 from the USAC surplus for installation of Locknetics in 14 offices in Kerckhoff Hall, with the understanding that any leftover money will be returned to USAC surplus.
Officer Reports:
“¢bull; President Cinthia Flores met with Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Janina Montero to discuss the possibility of allowing a limited number of students to pay their student fees in installments. Flores said Assembly Speaker Karen Bass will be coming to campus Jan. 16 to meet with student leaders as well as to have an open forum for students.
“¢bull; Internal Vice President Shahida Bawa met with Debra Geller, USAC alternate administrative representative, to discuss the student code of conduct for the year and any potential amendments.
“¢bull; Academic Affairs Commissioner Layhannara Tep met with Vice Provost Judith Smith to discuss the future of the international development studies major. The major will be suspended until June 2010 when it will be reevaluated. According to Tep, Smith said that this has happened to a number of majors in the past, including world arts and cultures.
