The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government that represents all undergraduate students. Council meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417.

“¢bull; The council approved contingency allocations for this week by a vote of 12-0-0.
“¢bull; After much contention, the council decided to approve Board of Directors budget allocations to cover events held by student organizations by a vote of 8-0-4. The allocations were first defeated by a vote of 3-7-2 when the vote to approve was initially held, due to concern that certain groups received extraordinarily larger amounts than other groups.
“¢bull; The council voted to approve continuing student appointees for their second term by a vote of 12-0-0.
“¢bull; The council also voted to approve student appointments made in the summer by a vote of 12-0-0.
Special Presentations
“¢bull; ASUCLA Events made a presentation regarding Waiver Pool Allocations, allocations given to student groups to host their events in Ackerman Union or Kerckhoff Hall. The ASUCLA representative emphasized that the deadline for applying for such allocations is always the middle of the month prior to the event. These allocations do not mean that the event is free but rather that if received, the student groups will receive the venue for free.
“¢bull; The ASUCLA representative also mentioned that events in Bruin Plaza must be approved first through the Center for Student Programming and then through ASUCLA Events in order to reserve tables, chairs and sound equipment.
Public Comments
“¢bull; CALPIRG is continuing its global warming campaign by planning to submit 350 short student video interviews to President Obama. So far, they have been able to collect 50 videos.
“¢bull; CALPIRG will be attending its Leadership Conference at Santa Monica College this weekend for training. The weekend will also feature a panel of experts to help educate students about issues.
“¢bull; CALPIRG participated in its hunger and homelessness campaign this week where they distributed donated food items to the homeless around the Westwood area.
Officer Reports
“¢bull; President Cinthia Flores met with Chancellor Gene Block last Friday to discuss reinstating Night Powell. So far, Night Powell has received $50,000 from a donor and is waiting for another donor to match the amount. Flores said her office is working to finalize estimates about how much it would cost to keep Night Powell for the entire school year. Night Powell is scheduled to be reopened in sixth week.
“¢bull; Flores said she met with the Student Fee Advisory Committee Tuesday morning to discuss use of student fees. Her office is looking to implement the Deferred Payment Plan, passed by former USAC President Homaira Hosseini.
“¢bull; Internal Vice President Shahida Bawa said she met with Chancellor Block to discuss issues concerning physical, sexual and verbal harassment and revisiting the student code of conduct.
“¢bull; Bawa said her office was looking into establishing a meditation and non-denominational prayer room for students, a women’s-only gym hour in the circuit room and additional safety lights on campus.
“¢bull; External Vice President Susan Li said her office will be lobbying for the DREAM Act this Thursday and Friday.
