UCLA women’s volleyball sweeps USC Trojans

The UCLA women’s volleyball team swept USC tonight, 27-25, 25-20, 25-22, with a reignited offense in front of 3,180 fans at Pauley Pavilion.

The No. 16 Bruins (13-5, 3-2 Pac-10) overpowered the No. 13 Trojans (13-4, 2-3) for the second straight match against the Trojans, out-killing their rivals 55 to 42. The Bruins had three players in double-figure kills, led by opposite Kaitlin Sather.

The redshirt senior was playing her final home USC match and led the Bruins from the start. Sather paced the Bruin offense in the first set with five kills, but also led the defense with nine digs.

She finished the match leading both teams with 15 kills and contributed 15 digs and three blocks.

Junior outside hitter Dicey McGraw, who has been leading the UCLA offense all season, recorded only one error with 12 kills on 27 swings to make for a .407 hitting percentage. In addition, McGraw went errorless in the final two sets.

McGraw credited her near errorless campaign to her distaste for the Trojans.

“I definitely went after it more just because of my hate of the Trojans,” she said.

She called tonight’s rivalry match her favorite of the year so far.

McGraw also credited the Bruins’ improved hitting to freshman setter Lauren Cook’s offensive orchestration.

Cook led both teams with 47 set assists and chipped in a kill, two blocks and 10 digs.
