The Bruins suffered their fourth loss in six matches tonight with Stanford winning in four sets, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.
In a match that began with the No. 16 Bruins (11-5, 1-2 Pac-10) opening a 10-point margin that the No. 11 Cardinal (8-4, 1-1) eventually rallied to tighten. The Cardinal trimmed its 10-point deficit with a 7-1 run to close out the first set.
Steadily breaking down the Bruin offense from that point, Stanford took the next three sets comfortably in UCLA’s home opener.
Freshman Bojana Todorovic started at the second outside hitter for the Bruins and was a hot hitter early in the match.
Todorovic, along with sophomore middle blocker Amanda Gil, junior outside hitter Dicey McGraw and redshirt senior opposite Kaitlin Sather, each chipped in three kills in the first set to contribute to a .206 hitting percentage.
The Bruins steadily declined in their hitting from that point to finish the match, hitting just .137. The Cardinal hit .200, led by junior outside Alix Klineman’s 23 kills, 10 digs and five solo blocks.
