Kicking off the new school year, thousands of students flooded Pauley Pavilion on Sunday for the annual Bruin Bash.
Hip-hop duo Clipse and Top 40 favorite LMFAO performed to a wide crowd of freshmen and transfer students, as well as other Bruins.
The event included a surprise announcement that rapper Jay-Z has added UCLA to his college arena tour. He will be performing at Pauley Pavilion on Nov. 8.
Tickets will be on sale for students starting Sept. 30 at 10 a.m.
For the first time, a lounge sponsored by UCLA Greek Life provided students in attendance with free food, live music and other amenities.
Afterward, Pauley Pavilion transformed into a dance party featuring special guest DJ Skeet Skeet.
Bruin Bash is part of the scheduled Welcome Week activities. Welcome Week also included a screening of the upcoming Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler action film, “Law Abiding Citizen,” on Sunday and the Enormous Activities Fair on the Intramural Field on Monday.
The concert and other Welcome Week activities are organized each year by many student government organizations, including the Cultural Affairs Commission and Campus Events Commission. Other groups involved include the UCLA Alumni Association, the Center for Student Programming and UCLA Greek Life.
Previous Bruin Bash performers include Estelle, T.I., Xzibit and Rooney.
