Chancellor reaches out to new students

Submitted By: Gene Block

Dear Students,

Welcome to UCLA! Your presence here means that you already have an exemplary record of achievement, and I extend my personal congratulations to you. Your opportunities to continue to learn and grow at UCLA are wide and varied.

Our campus community is an exceptionally rich and vital blend of academic, social and civic learning experiences.

In our classrooms, labs and studios, you will build the skills and knowledge that will enable you to turn your hopes and dreams into achievements. Along the way, you will meet personal challenges and forge lasting relationships.

We are all privileged to be part of such a dynamic environment of scholars, artists and athletes from every part of our nation and our world. UCLA campus life flourishes because of contributions from every member of our diverse Bruin family. We accept and welcome one another’s differences, from which we learn how to appreciate and navigate today’s global world.

I encourage you to set high goals for yourself and search out opportunities to contribute your skills and talents on campus and within our larger Los Angeles community.

We’re delighted that you’re here. Make yourselves at home and start getting to know your fellow Bruins. I look forward to meeting many of you, and I wish each of you great success.

Go Bruins!

Block has been chancellor of UCLA since 2007.
