Los Angeles World Airports recently launched a new Westwood schedule for the popular FlyAway shuttle service, which allows students to travel between the airport and Westwood without paying the steep prices of cabs or other shuttle services.
The old schedule had shuttles departing from both the Westwood stop and LAX every half-hour during the week and hourly on weekends. The new schedules will decrease the frequency of shuttles, with shuttles departing from each stop hourly on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The shuttle will continue to depart every half-hour all day on Fridays and for part of the day on Thursdays and Sundays.
Treva Miller, a representative for Los Angeles World Airports, said that the schedule change was made to make the service more cost-efficient and to ensure that LAX could continue to offer the service at a low cost in the future.
Second-year global studies student Amna Qamar, who takes the shuttle to LAX when returning home to Northern California, said that the changes were unlikely to make the shuttle any less convenient.
“When I plan to go home, I leave myself a good window of time to travel anyways,” she said.
“If I plan accordingly, it shouldn’t be a big deal.”
Second-year computer science and engineering student Wade Norris, however, expressed some concern over the recent changes.
Norris said that even when the old schedule was in place, there were times when a shuttle would fill up quickly, and he would have to wait for the next one.
With more time between each shuttle, Norris said that this wait might interfere with travel plans.
“That would make me want to take the SuperShuttle or something else,” he said.
Though FlyAway fares are increasing by $1 for other locations, the cost will remain the same for the Westwood stop despite modifications in schedule.
