Commencement is a landmark event in your lives. Graduating from UCLA is a wonderful achievement, and I know it marks the beginning of a future filled with many more. I am amazed by what you have accomplished here and inspired by your ambitions for your lives and careers.
At UCLA, you have learned from brilliant faculty whose scholarship and research is changing the world. Now, you will build upon their success and begin to lead in new and exciting directions. Your UCLA education will serve as a strong foundation, and your determination, curiosity and dedication to excellence will propel you to embrace that responsibility.
You also have learned from your fellow UCLA students who, like you, are the best of the best. The varied cultures and backgrounds you represent have added immeasurably to the learning environment here. Your understanding of diverse people and worldviews will serve you well in our global society.
Our campuswide passion for combining learning with giving back to our community is among UCLA’s greatest attributes. By participating in classes and volunteer activities that enhance the quality of life for the people of California, you have advanced our public service mission and I know that you will continue to serve others throughout your lives.
Please also stay engaged with our Bruin family. Although you may be leaving our campus, you will remain a vital part of UCLA and you are always welcome back. Treasure your connections with your fellow alumni. Support the students who will follow in your footsteps ““ enable them to have the same outstanding opportunities that you have enjoyed. In doing so, you will keep our great UCLA legacy thriving.
Finally, thank you for all the ways in which you have enriched campus life for all of us; we are grateful for everything you have contributed. As you graduate, I extend my very best wishes to you for much success and happiness.
