A test of the UCLA BruinAlert system will occur between noon and 1 p.m. today, according to a UCLA statement.
The alert system uses e-mail, text messaging, campus radio and television stations to provide information and instruct students, faculty and staff in the case of an emergency.
Outdoor loud speakers located in North Campus areas, on Bruin Walk, at the Intramural Field, in residence halls and at Dickson Court will be used.
The BruinAlert messages will be broadcast on televisions across campus and on the emergency radio AM 1630.
The test is part of a regular effort to ensure the system is working properly.
For those UCLA community members who have not subscribed to the BruinAlert text messages, go to the BruinAlert Web site or call UCLA Emergency Management at 310-825-6800.
