Bruins United represents diversity
Bruins United is the slate that represents diversity at UCLA. The Bruin’s United candidates come from diverse backgrounds and are committed to the diversity of opinion. This means making sure that USAC works for all students instead of just those that voted for our candidates.
Beyond the diversity, our candidates are also the most qualified for their positions.
Jesse Rogel chaired the ASUCLA Board of Directors, overseeing all of the campus eateries and handling an $80 million budget. Addison Huddy, chief of staff for general representative 1 this year, started the apartment review service on bruinwalk.com. Myles Hamby volunteered for a non-governmental organization in Sierra Leone and is a resident assistant in Hitch Suites. With their passion, experience, and training the Bruins United slate will serve all students and make UCLA a better and more fun place.

Nguyen lacks ethnic understanding
Anh Nguyen, the Cultural Affairs commissioner candidate for Bruins United, has been fooled by the model minority myth to believe that Asian-Americans and Pacific Americans are a homogeneous group. There are more than 40 ethnic groups within the category, including some of the most underrepresented communities such as Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian and Hmong people.
For Nguyen, to be a part of a statistically and historically underrepresented group and to say that he does not believe students of this group are underrepresented on this campus, is an incredible shame and demonstrates a lack of competency to fully serve the campus. As a member of the AAPI community ““ roughly 40 percent of the UCLA campus ““ I would be embarrassed if Nguyen was elected. If he cannot understand the needs of his own ethnic community, then I highly doubt he will know how to serve them.
