Animal rights activists charged with harassment

The Los Angeles district attorney’s office announced Monday that two animal rights activists were arraigned on indictments charging them with campaigns against UCLA researchers and a local juice company.

The two activists ““ 61-year-old Linda Faith Greene and 22-year-old Kevin Richard Olliff ““ pleaded not guilty to the indictments.

The arrests were made on April 16 on allegations that Greene and Olliff harassed UCLA researchers who use animals in their laboratories, said Jane Robison, a Los Angeles district attorney’s office spokeswoman.

They were held on a bail of $450,000 and $460,000, respectively, according to a UCLA statement

Previously, Greene and Olliff were indicted by the Los Angeles county grand jury on March 27. The two pleaded not guilty on Monday to stalking and other felony charges.

Both were associates of the Animal Liberation Front, an animal rights group, she said.

The victims were listed as researchers at UCLA and employees of POM Wonderful Juice Co., according to the attorney’s office’s statement.

In a statement responding to the arraignments, Chancellor Gene Block said, “UCLA is steadfastly committed to protecting our world-class researchers from harassment as they continue their vital work toward treatments and cures for a wide variety of afflictions.”
