UCLA freshman center J’mison Morgan had arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday morning to remove torn cartilage from his right knee.
Dr. David McAllister of UCLA performed the procedure.
Morgan is expected to be back at full strength in about six weeks.
The freshman center originally committed to play basketball for Louisiana State.
He changed his mind and committed to UCLA prior to the 2008-2009 basketball season.
He saw limited playing time in his first season because he lacked experience.
Morgan played in 21 games and averaged 5.4 minutes per game to go along with 2.3 points per contest and 1.0 rebounds.
The center will be one of a number of returning freshmen in 2009 that are expected to play a major role with the graduation of seniors Darren Collison, Josh Shipp and Alfred Aboya.
