USAC Recap

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff Hall 417.

Agenda

“¢bull; The council voted to officially support Zimride, a Facebook application that allows students to offer and request rides.

“¢bull; Hosseini reviewed memos from each subcommittee on their progress this year and goals for the future. The committees include affordability, sustainability, academic action and student engagement.

Special Presentations

“¢bull; A representative for 1FEST, a daylong festival in Wilson Plaza supporting marriage equality and all civil rights issues, asked for the council’s support. The student-run event is on April 19 and will feature live bands, speakers and action booths.

“¢bull; Representatives from Super CPR said their CPR certification event is April 12 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Covel Grand Horizon room. It costs $10 to pre-register and $12 to drop in the class.

“¢bull; A representative from the UC Student Regents said the next UC Regents meeting is May 5 through May 7 at UC San Diego. The regents will vote on fee increases, including a potential fee increase of 15 percent to 19 percent for the next academic year.

Officer Reports

“¢bull; President Homaira Hosseini said she is planning another town hall meeting for late May or early June. Her event BruINTENT is a campout at Sunset Recreation Center from 5 p.m. Thursday, April 16 until 10 a.m. the next morning. The $5 registration fee will benefit homeless shelters and homeless UCLA students. She will also hold office hours today from 1 to 3 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m.

“¢bull; External Vice President Jesse Melgar said April 24 is his office’s District Lobby Day. He said he also plans to send delegates to the UC Regents meeting in May.

“¢bull; Student Welfare Commissioner Jonathan Tsai said the UCLA Run/Walk was a success and encouraged students to participate in Bruin Health Week.

Appointments

“¢bull; The following students were appointed to the Office Space Allocation Committee: Karli Santos, a second-year international development studies and women’s studies student; Nathaniel Sepulveda, a first-year aerospace engineering student; Grace Ann Cecilio, a second-year international development studies student; Thai Le, a third-year international development studies and political science student; and Jonathan Hsi, a second-year psychobiology student.
