Months of work yield NSU’s night of culture

For three months Daily Bruin photojournalist Christina Liu followed and documented the process of planning and organizing the Nikkei Student Union’s Culture Night.

The Culture Night is organized around a different theme each year. This year’s theme, “Always Welcome, Never For Sale,” reflects the contemporary issues within the Japanese-American community.

From the first auditions in the Wooden Center to the final production in Royce Hall, the journey UCLA students go though to make this event possible is documented through photos.

Like many culture nights organized by UCLA students, the months of work behind the scenes often go without notice or recognition.

This entirely student-run event takes months to produce. This coverage of the Nikkei Student Union at UCLA is an effort to profile the student leaders who make these cultural events possible.

These students come from diverse academic and ethnic backgrounds. They come together through a common interest in theater, music, dance and cultural appreciation.
