Bruin gymnastics will host its first and only quad meet of the season on Sunday in Pauley Pavilion.
UCLA will take on Washington, Cal State Fullerton and Boise State in their first competition since the viral outbreak that occurred last week and prevented the team from competing at Stanford. That meet was not rescheduled.
UCLA opens the weekend ranked No. 2 in the nation behind Utah, the team the Bruins suffered their only loss to all season. UCLA currently ranks second in the country on vault and beam and fifth on bars and floor.
The Huskies enter the meet after a victory over then No. 21 Arizona. Six Huskies recorded season or career-high scores during the competition: Sophomore Samantha Walior recorded a career-high 9.900 on beam, senior Ashley Houghting won the vault and floor and sophomore Kristen Linton won on the bars.
The Boise State Broncos are coming off their second loss of the season, in which they narrowly lost to No. 14 Illinois. The Broncos have never beat the Bruins in a gymnastics competition. Individually, Boise State has eight athletes ranked in the nation’s top-100 in their respective events. Redshirt junior Taylor Jacob possesses the highest ranking of any Bronco at No. 8 in the nation on bars.
Cal State Fullerton is coming off its second consecutive win, this time over Utah State. Sophomore Alaina Baker won the individual all-around title for the second straight week, and sophomore Maddie Steinauer recorded top-five finishes in floor, beam, and vault.
After the meet, the Bruins will honor the 1984 NCAA men’s gymnastics championship team from UCLA. Coach Valerie Kondos Field will introduce each member of the team, including those that are gold-medal Olympians.
