Sports information director Danny Harrington confirmed that junior forward Lauren Cheney practiced on Monday and will play Friday against Stanford after sustaining a minor injury to her ankle in last Friday’s match against USC.
In the 73rd minute of Friday’s match, Cheney collided with a USC player, left the game, and did not return.
According to Harrington, Cheney was removed from the game as a precautionary measure only.
“Cheney is fine,” Harrington said. “She just tweaked her ankle in the game a little bit but has been practicing.”
LARSEN NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Junior forward Kristina Larsen was named UCLA Student-Athlete of the week on Monday, in recognition of her performance Friday against USC.
Larsen came off the bench to score both goals in the Bruins 2-1 win over the Women of Troy at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The win kept UCLA undefeated in the season, heading into their match this Friday against No. 5 Stanford, who is also undefeated.
Larsen’s pair of goals on Saturday ran her season total to nine, tying her with Cheney for the team lead.
