UCLA-Oregon, Second Quarter

Masoli just ran for another first down on third and long; his running is really the only thing that’s working right now for the Ducks. He gained 80 yards in the first quarter and has already got a few more the second.

Evensen has already missed from 42-yard but he’ll now try from 50. The kick is blocked by Reginald Stokes.

A scrambling Kevin Craft just overthrew tight end Ryan Moya. It was a tough through because Craft had to loft it over an Oregon defender, but it’s still one he probably could hae made.

Huge first down for UCLA; 15-yard pass from Craft to Terrence Austin. UCLA is now moving into Oregon territory. This time the Bruins need to come away with some points.

Craft just missed another throw on third down but Oregon’s Nick Reed was hanging onto his leg when he threw, and that had to be a factor.

Maybe it’s the cold weather but UCLA punter Aaron Perez is struggling; his last attempt went just 29 yards.

UCLA defense comes up big again. This has to be a tough decision for Oregon coach Mike Bellotti- QB Masoli has run the ball very well and the Ducks are up 7-0, but the passing game hasn’t really worked out so far. Maybe we’ll see a little Justin Roper soon?

A slightly better boot for Perez- 35 yards and inside the Oregon 20.

Reggie Carter’s been taken off the field but it doesn’t look like a serious injury. He’s replaced by John Hale.

Carter is back in on the next play. Tough kid.

Has UCLA learned its lesson? Defensive backs Brett Lockett and Alterraun Verner just ran Masoli out of bounds on third down to force a punt.

Oregon is playing at UCLA’s pace. It’s been a relatively slow, back-and-forth game so far with a lot of punting. There hasn’t been a big play for either team yet. One would think this is the type of situation the Bruin coaches hoped for; their team is very much in this game right now.

UCLA freshman WR Taylor Embree looked like a veteran as he ran to the exact spot where Kevin Craft could find him for a first down. UCLA has moved into Oregon territory for the third time.

Oregon brings a huge blitz on third down and Jerome Boyd sacks Kevin Craft. Boyd got there so fast, Craft never had a chance. Even worse, it looks like UCLA RB Kalil Bell hurt his ankle blocking on the play. He’s hobbling off the field slowly with the help of two trainers. Freshman Derrick Coleman will likely replace him.

Oregon punt returner Jarius Byrd just slipped out of an Akeem Ayers tackle and gained 18 yards on his return. It was another fairly short UCLA punt; just 32 yards.

UCLA has once again stopped Oregon and now the Bruins’ offense will have a chance to score with just 1:08 remaining and only one timeout. The Bruins will have to move about 60 yards to reach Kai Forbath’s field goal range.

UCLA does receive to start the second half, so the Bruins may just try to run the clock.

UCLA gets a decent punt from Aaron Perez when it needs it most. Perez has now punted six times this half.

Masoli burns UCLA again, putting the Ducks in field goal range with a 24 yard run. He’s gained 128 yards rushing this half.

UCLA safety Rahim Moore got turned around and gave up a touchdown to Oregon’s Chris Harper (who is listed as a back-up quaterback). The play was reviewed but the call on the field stood.

UCLA hasn’t yet faced a truly mobile quarterback this season. Maybe that explains Masoli’s dominance thus far.
