2 robberies reported to UCPD on Wednesday

University police received reports of two separate robbery incidents on Wednesday night, the victims of which are both UCLA students. Neither of the student victims was injured.

“At this time there’s no information that indicates these details are related,” said Nancy Greenstein, a UCPD spokeswoman.

The first incident occurred at 9:45 p.m. on the 10900 block of Roebling Avenue.

A male victim was approached by a silver four-door Toyota Corolla, Greenstein said. A male suspect emerged out of the car and demanded the victim’s property, Terry Brown, a UCPD detective, said.

The suspect was approximately 20 years old and had an eyebrow piercing, according to a UCPD crime log.

The victim ran into his apartment before anything could be taken.

The second incident occurred at 10:50 p.m. at Gayley and Landfair Avenues.

According to the crime log, the victim was sitting on a short wall with a friend when three suspects, two males and a female, walked past them.

The suspects then turned around and demanded the victim’s property, taking cash and an iPod, according to the log.

Greenstein said none of the suspects have been apprehended.

“Both suspects got away,” she said. “But we are looking for these individuals.”

UCPD has been actively patrolling, and four arrests for robbery have been made in the last two months, Brown said. The arrests are currently in the court system, so UCPD is unable to comment.

Brown said most of the victims have been males, who perhaps are less cautious about walking around at night. And the suspects have demanded property from victims.

She recommended that students do not walk around with their iPod headphones in their ears.

“That’s a telltale sign that you have one, and it tends to be what they’re after,” she added.

UCPD is currently investigating the incidents and working on composite sketches of the suspects, she said.

Greenstein said students should contact local law enforcement such as the Los Angeles Police Department and UCPD if they see suspicious activity.

University police recommend that students program their cell phones with the UCPD dispatch number, 310-825-1491, especially since so many people are out and about in Westwood on weekends.

“We want people to be alert,” Greenstein said. “If they see suspicious-looking individuals, they can call us.”
