As students begin to make their way back to the university for a new school year, the UCLA Alumni Association, along with a number of student organizations, will host a series of activities and events to welcome new and returning Bruins back to the university.
The Welcome Week activities began on Saturday with a vendor fair on Sunset Village Plaza and will end the following Saturday on Sept. 27.
Popular highlights of the annual Welcome Week activities include Sunday’s Bruin Bash, featuring Estelle and Hellogoodbye at Pauley Pavilion, and a dance in Pauley Pavilion after the concert, according to the UCLA Alumni Association Web site.
The UCLA Alumni Association, an organization largely involved in hosting Welcome Week activities, is comprised of 90,965 alumni and friends of UCLA, said Mark Davis, director of communications of the UCLA Alumni Association.
The organization provides opportunities and support for current students and alumni of the university, and it hosts events all through out the year by generating funding through alumni membership dues and activities, Davis said.
Student-driven organizations, such as the Cultural Affairs Commission and the Campus Events Commission, are partners in the Welcome Week activities and events. Events held by these organizations, such as Bruin Bash, are funded largely by USAC, said Penson Liu, Campus Events commissioner.
The Welcome Week activities this year will give new and returning UCLA students the chance to discover and celebrate the multifaceted and diverse UCLA community.
“The Alumni Association strives to enhance the quality of life for students while they are on campus to create a truly valuable and memorable experience,” Davis said.
