UCLA officials are currently investigating alleged sexual assaults of two female students in Rieber Vista over the summer.
The incidents occurred separately, but the same male is suspected for both cases, according to a university police crime bulletin. The bulletin also said that the suspect was known to the victim in the first case, and in the second case, he befriended the victim.
The first call to UCPD arrived from the Santa Monica Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica Hospital on July 31, according to UCPD crime logs. The second call arrived later from the Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center.
The alleged victims are members of the Academic Advancement Program.
A meeting was held Monday with AAP students to discuss the assault reports and explain to students that the investigation is being led by the Office of the Dean of Students.
Campus officials are investigating allegations of the sexual misconduct involving students on campus earlier this summer, UCLA spokesman Phil Hampton said in a statement. While no police report has been filed, UCLA is taking the allegations seriously, he added.
UCPD is not currently investigating, but the Office of the Dean of Students is investigating the allegations, said Nancy Greenstein, a UCPD spokeswoman.
“None of the victims have chosen to move ahead with any kinds of prosecution or reports,” Greenstein added. “We have a notation, and we’re aware of it, and we’re available for the victims if they do want to proceed.”
The bulletin regarding the alleged assaults was posted on the UCPD Web site to alert students of the potential threat.
“We wanted to just alert people to the fact that there’s something strange or suspicious happening, and we wanted them to be careful,” Greenstein said.
