They say what goes up must come down, but unlike the publishing industry, the Festival of Books’ decline is nowhere in sight. With an anticipated 140,000 attendees at this year’s event, the largest literary festival in the country is back for another printing ““ this time with revisions. This year, the festival will focus on the writing process itself, holding writing workshops in addition to panel discussions. Also new this year is a wider range of books, specifically Japanese-style manga comics. For Festival veterans, however, the 13th annual event marks the end of an era: This year, we bid farewell to Dutton’s Brentwood Books, a participant in the festival from the beginning. Newcomers to the festival, though, whether young authors or freshmen bibliophiles, will still find the opportunity to revel in a yet-undiscovered literary world. So whether you enjoy reading, listening to live band performances or stalking celebrities (Julie Andrews is coming!), bring your inner bookworm and some sunscreen (it’s hot off the presses) and take part as UCLA transforms into a haven of books. So bookmark the Daily Bruin; we’ve got it covered.
