Gym hours must be extended

I frequent the John Wooden Center many times a week. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that we have a nice, well-kept gym open to us. But as a comment to “Ours is the Fittest of Rec Centers” (Jan. 23), I would like to say I don’t like that it closes before 1 a.m.

As a college student, I don’t sleep until well into the early morning hours. Sometimes I do want to lift at those odd hours, and I’m not alone. My floormates, with whom I often go to Wooden, agree that working out would be much simpler if Wooden were open later.

The only 24-hour option available to us is the Hedrick Hall gym, which has a total of two treadmills, two bikes and a few ellipticals. At a school this large, and this health-conscious, there is no reason Wooden should close as earlier as it does, especially on the weekends.

Also, the fact that Wooden gets so crowded at peak hours pushes one to believe we need more and better equipped satellite facilities. There should definitely be one on the Hill, which would alleviate rush hours.
