Sanobar’s actions not representative
Students First! is a coalition of students who advocate for the accessibility and affordability of higher education, campus safety and social justice. As a past presidential candidate for Students First!, it deeply saddens me to hear about the recent fraudulent e-mails found in a funding application from the office of general representative 3 (“Sajan resigns in face of forgery scandal,” News, Jan. 7).
Such actions do not represent what the Students First! coalition stands for and will not be tolerated, especially from an elected student government official and her staff. We do not condone these efforts and hope that this will be a learning experience for all.
In the future, we will strive to provide the campus with continuous and accountable leadership in student government.
Even with the recent events, Students First! is and will always be committed to advocating positive social change and programming.
This year alone, we have led the efforts for the passage of the California Dream Act, organized UC-wide mobilizations of students against fee increases, and continued Campus Safety Awareness Week. We also contributed to the Count Me In campaign, which led to the integration of “other Asians” in UC admissions applications.
We will continue to make sure that we prevent oversight in our funding applications and hold our leaders accountable to the expectations of integrity and respect.
In the new year, I challenge students to keep their student government accountable in all decisions ““ funding related or not.
