One more week, 17 more appointments

USAC breezed through 17 (count them “¦ 17!) appointments to the Academic Senate yesterday in under three hours and even managed to fit in a follow-up discussion about the digitization of student group funding forms.
Academic Affairs Commissioner Addar Weintraub had already screened and interviewed the applicants before the meeting.
Council applauded Weintraub for her work and approved 14 of the appointees and tabled three until the next meeting.
Goodwill was also abundant for Campus Events Commissioner Colin Iberti and Cultural Events Commissioner Bernice Shaw, who together put on what many on council called one of the best Bruin Bash events the university has seen.
General Representative Christina Colosimo and Jerry Mann, director of Associated Students UCLA Student Support Services, gave a presentation on the work they’ve done in researching software and hardware options for USAC’s digitization.
Currently, the thousands of forms USAC receives each year from student groups have to be manually scanned by a student employee. These programs would allow student groups to submit important forms electronically and would bypass this tedious process.
Now all that remains to digitize is buying the hardware and software, fitting it into the budget, having it installed and set up, coordinating between USAC, Graduate Students Association, ASUCLA and the Center for Student Programming, and then maintaining it year by year.
Everyone agreed, despite these hurdles, that in the end, digitization is beneficial and necessary.
