Important People on Campus: Students

Gabe Rose

President of the Undergraduate Students Association Council, Rose was formerly president of the Bruin Democrats and founder of the Student Coalition for Marriage Equality. He is part of the Bruins United slate, which was a group of candidates who collaborated during the elections and won in a landslide. His election platform included plans for a “Concerts for Cash” series, bringing presidential candidates to campaign on campus, and increasing alumni networking for students.

Nurit Katz

President of the Graduate Students Association, Katz oversees the cabinet of the organization. Representatives from the different departments make up 13 councils that have voting representation with Forum, the governing assembly of the association.

Jared Fox

Chair of the Associated Students UCLA Board of Directors, which is made up of a student majority. Former Graduate Students Association president, Fox will switch roles with his undergraduate counterpart, Vice Chair Dave Karlik.

Oiyan Poon

Poon is president of the University of California Students Association, which is a board made up of student governments from the UC campuses. Each school pays dues from graduate and undergraduate student fees, and UCLA pays about $82,000 per year. UC Davis voted to withdraw from the coalition in 2006. Issues they work on include accessibility, affordability and quality for the UC system.

D’Artagnan Scorza

Student regent designate for the Board of Regents, Scorza began his two-year term in July as a non-voting member of the regents. He will officially assume the role of student regent, who represents students’ interests to the board, for the 2008-2009 year. He is a doctoral student in the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies.
