Scrimmage gives fans a close-up look at the new season

There were 6,700 fans on hand Saturday at Drake Stadium to see the UCLA football team’s first scrimmage of the fall. The team ran over 90 plays in preparation for its Sept. 1 opener at Stanford. Quarterback Ben Olson went 7-10 with 61 yards, and tailback Kahlil Bell ran for 40 yards on seven carries. The defense was dominant, as usual. Linebacker Christian Taylor led the way with seven tackles. The Bruins will play their first home game at the Rose Bowl on Sept. 8 against Brigham Young University.
