Pedophile arrested on campus

Jack McClellan, a self-described pedophile and a blogger, is in Los Angeles County jail after being arrested twice on campus.

McClellan was first arrested around 1:40 p.m. Monday after university police were called to the Infant Development Program, which provides day care for children 3 months to 3 years old.

An employee recognized him and he was spotted with a camera, said Nancy Greenstein, director of police community services for university police.

He is currently under a restraining order preventing him from being within 10 yards of minors.

He was released, ordered to stay away from the UCLA campus and scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 13 on suspicion of violating his restraining order.

But McClellan was spotted later in a campus parking lot, giving an interview to television station KTLA.

He was cited for trespassing and is being held on $5,000 bail by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s station in West Hollywood.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at 2 p.m. today at the airport division of the Superior Court, Greenstein said.

McClellan is unemployed, lives from his car and suffers from depression, according to the Associated Press.

He ran a Web site, which was taken down by his server last month, with pictures he had taken of children in public places and, while he discussed his attraction to young girls, he said he did not do anything illegal, such as touch them.

Greenstein said the program employee behaved correctly after recognizing McClellan and said the public should always be concerned and diligent about suspicious activity.

“Everything worked the way it was supposed to,” she said.

With reports from Bruin wire services.
