Animal activists need perspective on tests
I would like to respond to the animal rights activists who attacked UCLA Professor Arthur Rosenbaum for his work in ophthalmology and his use of animal testing (Activists target professor, News, June 2). My child was born with severe eye abnormalities and had to undergo many eye surgeries over the last six years. If it wasn’t for these excellent eye surgeons and the research they have done in ophthalmology, she would be blind. These animal activists obviously have no eye problems and don’t need the advanced help of these very skilled pediatric ophthalmologists. How do they think any medical research should be done to accomplish advancements in our medical world if we do not employ animal testing? My child is getting ready to have another surgery and if it can’t be done by an eye doctor because of these activists and their ridiculous bombing attempts, she would have real problems with her vision and the appearance of her eyes.

UCLA offers many amazing opportunities
I would like to respond to a letter to the editor, written by Robby Nadler, in which he questioned my love for UCLA (Saxon RA has taken grievances too far, April 25). My love for UCLA motivated me to overcome adversity and has inspired in me the desire to support and strengthen the UCLA community.
UCLA has offered me many opportunities and I believe I am a model student in that I have utilized the vast number of resources that UCLA has to offer all students. I want to deeply thank the UCLA administration from the bottom of my heart for putting in time and energy to make UCLA one of the best universities in the world. I want to dedicate my greatest achievements to UCLA for its solid commitments.
And one day, using the things I have learned at UCLA, I hope to become an influential individual who will one day change people’s minds and hearts.
